O Apenheul foi inaugurado em 1971, e é o único parque no mundo em que os macacos vivem livres, na floresta. Estes também são livres para andar e brincar entre os visitantes do parque. Tal liberdade faz com que o ambiente seja favorável à formação de grupos sociais, e consequentemente há procriação, ou seja, os macacos se reproduzem perfeitamente. O pessoal do Apenheul também trabalha junto a vários grupos internacionais de preservação à natureza. Nós conhecemos um pouco mais o trabalho do grupo “primates helping primates”, que é uma fundação que possibilita às pessoas “adotar-se” um macaco: você paga uma pequena quantia por mês pela adoção e recebe fotos e informações do seu adotado… Marina ficou super interessada em adotar um pequeno orangotango do Borneo. Mas ainda temos um dilema social a resolver: não seria mais correto adotar uma criança? :O)
Apenheul was inaugurated in 1971, and became the only park in the world in which monkeys live freely in the forest. Monkeys can also walk freely among visitors. All that freedom creates a proper environment for the formation of social groups, and as a consequence, procreation is not an issue and the monkeys reproduce frequently. The Apenheul folks also support several initiatives by international groups to protect nature. We got to know a bit more the work of a group called “primates helping primates”. This is a foundation that makes it possible for anyone to adopt a monkey: we just have to pay a small amount of money per month, and we receive photos and information about our adopted monkey… Marina was keen to adopt an orangutan that currently lives in Borneo. But we are still not sure about a social dilemma: wouldn’t it be more correct to adopt a child instead? :O)
